Working after your studies (PGWP)

PGWP: Your gateway to Canada

Plan your professional future today

One of the greatest strengths of the Canadian education system is the recognition of your degree in the national labor market. The Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) is more than just a legal document; it is the strategic bridge that transforms your status from an international student into a skilled professional in Canada.

However, the success of your PGWP application is decided from the very first day of your school enrollment. Pro Immigration Consultant helps you navigate these complex requirements and secure your transition.

Critical factors to secure before starting your studies:

  1. DLI Eligibility: Do not make the mistake of choosing an unrecognized private school. Only specific Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) offer programs that lead to a PGWP. We verify the validity of your institution for you.
  2. Maintaining Status: To remain eligible, you must maintain full-time student status without interruption (except for authorized leaves). A single part-time semester can lead to an automatic refusal of your future work permit.

Critical updates: Since november 2024

As of November 1, 2024, new IRCC rules have radically changed access to the PGWP. It is now imperative to meet the following criteria:

  1. Language Proficiency: You must now provide proof of your English or French language skills at the time of submission. A CLB 7 level is required for university graduates, and a CLB 5 level is required for college graduates.
  2. Field of Study Alignment: For certain programs (particularly at the college level), your degree must now be linked to high-demand labor sectors in Canada, such as healthcare, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), skilled trades, agriculture, or transport.

Your strategic benefits:

  1. Canadian Experience: Accumulate the work months necessary to become eligible for Permanent Residency (via Express Entry or the CEC).
  2. Total Flexibility: As an open permit, the PGWP allows you to change employers or provinces without requesting a new authorization from immigration.
  3. Family Support: Under certain conditions, obtaining your PGWP may allow your spouse to extend their own open work permit.
